"Matsukaze" was originally built in Oiso to serve as the second house of the Kurodas (a former group of domain lords), in order for them to entertain the Meiji Emperor.
Matsukaze was relocated to Jinya by the Mitsui Group in the early 20th century. The effort invested by the Kurodas can be seen in the highly-skilled techniques and the luxurious layout they have employed for this lavishly-constructed house.
Despite the fact that more than a hundred years has passed since it was built, Matsukaze still holds a profound and majestic presence thanks to the floorboards, columns and glass windows that have been preserved to this day. An outdoor cypress bathtub has been recently installed, providing constant and 100% pure hot-spring water that contains one of the highest concentrations of calcium in the world. The room was previously used as a banquet hall but, as of March, it has been renovated in order to accomodate staying guests.

This private outdoor bath, called "Ukibune", is on the veranda outside the room.
Animation master Hayao Miyazaki stayed here for several consecutive nights.

A 10 tatami-mat Japanese-style room and an 8 tatami-mat Western-style room, equipped with a shower room. The room is designed for a cozy and comfortable stay.

This room is located in the building where a number of competitions for the Japanese Chess Master Title have taken place. Habu Yoshihara (a holder of the Meijin Title) and Fukauchi Kouichi (a holder of the Oi Title) have stayed in this room.

A purely Japanese-style room which creates a harmonious atmosphere through a nostalgic wood fragrance.
